Information about St.Jacob's Church Nisibis
The Mor Yacoub monastery was built in 419 AD in the name of Aziz Yacoub (More Yacoub), who was born in Egypt in 330 AD, and became a priest in a small monastery in Alexandria, and from Egypt, he came to Tarsus by sea and from there to Diyarbakir, after which he settled In the village of Saleh in Mardin. Mor Jacob was famous throughout his life for miracles such as healing the sick. The monastery was distinguished by a simple building that extended over a large area, including the tombs of many monks, some of whom lived their lives alongside Saint Jacob and others followed his approach and method. Today, due to the passage of time, only archaeological remains remain of the monastery, which bear witness to the nobility of this place.
