The Franciscans in 1292, who had arrived in Colmar before 1250, began erecting a building that had only been completed during the first half of the fourteenth century, the Basilica of Saint Matthew. Thanks to the church's wonderful sound, there are concerts from the International Music Festival in Colmar every year; It is worth noting that in 1715 a wall was built to separate the Protestant church in the nave on one side and the Catholic church in the choir on the other side, and after the construction of the new Pasteur Hospital in 1937, the entire church was again booked for Protestant worship and in 1987 the wall was destroyed.
