Japanese Prime Minister Jan Smuts officially opened the National War Museum of South Africa in Johannesburg on August 29, 1947 to preserve the history of South Africa's participation in World War II, and in 1975, the museum's name was changed to the South African National Museum of Military History and its function was changed to include All the conflicts South Africa was involved in, not just World War II, and in 1999 it was merged with the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria and the National Cultural History Museum, and this large museum mostly contains military-related records, magazines, weapons and photographs depicting the nation's involvement in conflicts wide range.
