It is the memorial and military cemetery in Bratislava, built between 1957 and 1960 on the site of the field cemetery, and opened on April 3, 1960, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the liberation of the city. Thousands of Soviet soldiers who fell during World War II until the liberation of the city in April 1945 were buried in the cemetery. In 1961 it was declared a National Cultural Monument, and the monument was designed by architect Lian Svetlik.
