Information about Shrine of Christ the King
The tomb of Christ the King is one of the most prominent religious monuments in Messina. It was built on the remains of the ancient fortress of Matgravon, designed by the architect Giovanni Battista Milani in 1937. The Baroque-style temple building features unique architectural elements represented by irregular octagonal shapes. It has a large dome with eight ribs. Surrounding the base of the building are eight bronze statues by the sculptor Teofilo Raggio, showing the three theological virtues: faith, hope and charity; The four basic virtues: wisdom, justice, constancy and moderation.
