This neighborhood was established in 1956 under an agreement signed between the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA and the Jordanian government. At the time, it accommodated 28 Palestinian families who were displaced from their occupied lands in 1948, and is now threatened by an Israeli settlement plan that includes building 200 housing units in the middle and evacuating families from their homes Palestine to house Jewish settlers there.
