The castle square and park is the largest square in Münster, and one of the largest inland squares in Europe. It was created at the end of the 17th century, when Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen demolished the city walls in the west and built the castle. Today, this square and the surrounding park is a lively center in the city, hosting many social events such as festivals, celebrations, etc., and is an ideal place for relaxation and picnics.
