The Sayyida Ruqayyah Mosque is distinguished by its oriental (Iranian) architectural designs and exquisite decorations. It houses the tomb of Sakina bint Husayn (Ruqaiya, the young daughter of Hussain bin Ali, grandson of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him), who died in Damascus in 681. It is one of the landmarks that attracts a good number of people Tourists visit the city every year, and the most important feature of this Islamic landmark is the many mirrors, golden works and beautiful inscriptions that adorn the walls, in addition to its proximity to the Umayyad Mosque and the Hamidiya market located in the heart of the city.
