The San Renovato Dam - also known as the Little Dam - was constructed between 1838 and 1852, and is a functional structure intended to enhance water-holding capabilities, and was designed to control the water levels of the various springs and small rivers that flow from the surrounding hills. The Renovato Dam was remodeled in the early 20th century with red paint and distinctive tiles by Manuel Lyell, an interior lighthouse was built on Bova Hill and the lower bridge of the river turned into a sunken garden.
