The monastery church of Saint Mary of Tequerguiol was built in the seventeenth century by the peasants of Mayoresti (Morris region), and was moved in 1934 by King Carol II of Romania from Transylvania to Cherghiol, and the monastery was established in 1928 when the Patriarch Romania's first, Miron Cristea, purchased a 16-room building, and converted it into a place that houses nuns from all over the country.
