A famous museum in Palermo owns one of the richest collections of ancient Punic and Greek art in Italy, along with many artifacts related to the history of Sicily. The museum consists in part of private collections that were purchased or donated to the museum over the various centuries, including the Antonio Salinas collection, which is the largest collection in the museum, comprising 6,641 pieces of books, manuscripts, prints, photographs, coins, etc., in addition to the Prince Belmont collection, which is the oldest collection in the museum. It was acquired in 1814 from the University of Palermo Museum.
