Information about Queens Park, Birmingham
The Queen's Garden was established in 1898 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, after which Turks Lane was renamed The Queen's Garden. The 10-acre plot was purchased by the Harborne Charitable Committee and presented to the City Council. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953 and this coronation was marked by the opening of the Garden for the Blind. This park was chosen due to its proximity to the Royal Birmingham Institution for Blind and Visually Impaired Children on Court Oak Road. The garden site was the lawn terrace of the Court Oak House adjacent to the garden and owned by Birmingham City Council.
