The river that runs through Penryn has made it an important commercial center since the eighteenth century. The docks on which boats have lined for centuries to transport goods such as coal, stones and minerals from the town's mines still exist today, in addition to the presence of old black stone buildings and warehouses. And other facilities, most of which today have become gift shops.
