The Pedro and Inés Bridge is a pedestrian bridge opened in 2007 in the university city of Coimbra. Designed by Cecil Balmond, its 600-foot-high structure spans the Rio Modigo River and is the city's first pedestrian bridge, and has become known locally. Known as the "Bridge That Never Meets", it was created from two cantilevers joining in the middle to form a viewing platform, and each corridor is responsible for supporting the other, giving a visual effect that suggests that the two halves of the bridge never meet.
