The Passeig de la Murraya is part of the ancient city walls of Girona. Originally built by the Romans, some of the foundations of the ancient ramparts are believed to date back to the first century BC, however much of what remains of the city walls was built between the ninth and seventeenth centuries, in addition to being strengthened over the years to protect the city from siege, Portions of the wall were also deliberately destroyed to allow for the expansion of the city. Today, the remains of the old city walls serve as an elevated walkway that offers wonderful panoramic views of the city.
