The Archdiocese of Santa Cruz or Old Cathedral is the most famous temple in Cádiz, which tradition has it was built on the site of an ancient Islamic mosque. The diocese was distinguished by a majestic architecture in the Gothic style, with high ceilings, courtyards, and marble interior alcoves. The church underwent repairs for the first time in 1572 AD, after the English-Dutch invasion of the city.
