Built in 1882 as a replica of the greenhouse in Kew Gardens in London, Balmainhouse was the largest of its kind in the world when completed. Inside there is a veritable jungle of plants from all over the world such as the Mediterranean, temperate and tropical climates, including a 1.2m diameter water lily, a 350-year-old olive tree, and Australian Willemy pine from the age of dinosaurs.
