The garden at Schönbrunn Palace was opened to the public around 1779, and since then has provided popular recreational amenities to the Viennese population. In addition to being the focus of great cultural and historical interest for international visitors, it is a beautiful and peaceful place. Initially a hunting lodge under Empress Maria Theresia in the 1700s, the palace and parks were renovated as we know them today. The park is a local holiday area for citizens, and is also a significant tourist attraction.
