Located in the historic center of Palermo, the museum is housed in a historic palace building that was home to the aristocratic Filangeri family for four centuries. The palace consists of a series of "public" rooms lavishly decorated in terms of walls adorned with silk curtains and embroideries, in addition to various artworks of frescoes and sculptures. The palace also houses a Chinese living room created during the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum attracts visitors to view the artworks it displays, including paintings, drawings and sculptures, and to learn about the details of aristocratic life during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
