The monumental Palace of Culture dominates the central part of Iai and is considered a true historical symbol of the past, the most important in eastern Romania. Its construction began in 1906 according to the design of the famous architect Ion Dumitru Berindey, with its eclectic style displaying neo-Gothic and Baroque elements New and Art Nouveau, extending over an area of 36,000 square meters and comprising nearly 300 rooms, and from the beginning, the palace contained the most modern fixtures and most elaborate decorations and furniture from Western Europe, and its initial aim was to be the Palace of Justice and Administration, and it continued to be so for three decades. Today, the palace hosts four different museums; The History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Science Museum and the Art Museum, all of which are accommodated in its vast rooms, the brilliance of this palace can be seen from the first place you see it: the Hall of Honor with its grand Carrara marble staircases, large stained-glass windows and a splendid marble floor.
