The Nile River is the symbol and distinctive sign of Egypt. It is the longest river in the world, with a length of 4,187 miles (6,650 km). It originates from Lake Victoria in eastern Central Africa and empties into the Mediterranean Sea . It has two main tributaries, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile originates in the Great Lakes region in central Africa and runs from northern Tanzania to Lake Victoria, to Uganda and then to southern Sudan. Whereas, the Blue Nile begins in Lake Tana in Ethiopia and then flows to Sudan from the southeast, then the two rivers meet at the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
