The Nguyen Tuong Family Temple was built in 1806 by Nguyen Tuong Van who served as chief of the royal army during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century under Emperor Minh Mang, and was granted by the Emperor with land in Cam Phu municipality Dien Ban district, which is now part of Hoi An ancient city, and when he died in 1822 the house became a place of worship, and a portrait of him - made in China when Nguyen visited the Qing dynasty - is preserved in the main altar.
