Founded in 1988, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is the first national-level fine arts museum in Taiwan and one of the largest in Asia. The gallery's permanent collection consists of works by Taiwanese artists from the 18th century to the present. The museum organizes diverse visual art exhibitions (more than thirty each year) featuring national and international art pieces. A highlight of the museum is the sculpture garden outside the building, which showcases the development of Taiwanese sculpture. Designed for children under 12, the family room and picture book area encourage a love of art and reading for the museum's youngest visitors.
