The National Gandhi Museum was established in the year 1960. The purpose of the museum is to glorify Mahatma Gandhi while at the same time introducing the new generation to the wonderful work done by this person. This is done through photographs, paintings, manuscripts and the worldly possessions of the Mahatma. The museum contains exhibits showing his life and his efforts in the struggle to liberate India. The library on the premises contains about 40,000 books, magazines and writings about Gandhi on world peace and his views on religion.
