Nassau Public Library is the oldest and largest library in the Bahamas, and was founded in 1837 to spread knowledge and a culture of reading among the local population. The library is located inside a colonial building built in 1797. The library building contains small prison cells that once housed resistance prisoners, and the library also contains old colonial documents, newspapers, books, charts, historical publications, and much more.
