Information about Museum Pietrarsa
It was in this place that the history of the Italian railways was born, on October 3, 1839 AD. The first Italian railway was inaugurated, with a length of 7,411 meters. The road was covered in 11 minutes by two trains. In the following year, a royal decree was issued to purchase the first part of the land on which the complex will be built. In 1842, the first building of the complex was built. At first, the place was devoted to the production of mechanical materials and fireworks for naval and war needs, building and repairing locomotives and railroad cars. After the end of the war and liberation, it was converted into a museum to reflect this ancient history of those Italian manufactures. A must-visit is this specialized museum that contains everything that reflects its exciting history from locomotives and mechanical machines.
