The museum was established in 1950 as a collection center, and since 1961 it began working as a museum for the homeland. Merging with the Gallery of Modern Arts and with the Risto Stijović Gallery, this institution has been known since 1974 as the Podgorica Museums and Galleries. The museum includes an archaeological and historical treasure, which contains valuable items that talk about the historical civilization of Podgorica, as well as about its cultural achievements, values and traditions, which gives you the impression that you are living in two different times at the same time.
