The museum provides visitors with an overview of art from the 13th to the late 20th centuries. With nearly a thousand works on display, visitors can reflect on the major periods and pictorial schools of Western art such as the Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque, Rococo, and modern art such as Pop. The museum also contains works from some of the neighboring countries, such as German Impressionism and Expressionism, and the pioneering experimental movements of the early 20th century. In addition, it houses an important collection of valuable American paintings that cannot be found in any other European institution other than this museum.
