Information about Musee et conservatoire d'anatomie
The Museum and Institute of Anatomy (Musée d'Anatomie) belongs to the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier, the oldest medical school in the world still operating. The museum (which was established for the first time in the eighteenth century) recently reopened, and the museum contains more than 5,600 pieces related to the study of human anatomy, which are displayed in the exhibitions inside, and these pieces include body parts (anatomical pieces and pathological tissues), and models. Waxes for cancerous and genital lesions, various pieces of anthropology, fetuses, malformations, skeletons, and old surgical instruments some of which can be very frightening. But it is definitely a fun place that guarantees you a wonderful and different tour. The museum has been closed to the public for several years but offers guided tours that can be arranged at the Tourist Office in Montpellier.
