Muckross Abbey is one of the main church sites in Killarney National Park, a historic building founded in 1448 as a Franciscan Order of the Observantine Franciscans. The church had a violent history and was damaged and rebuilt several times. Therefore, visitors will not find a roof over the building when they visit the place, but will find a central courtyard containing a majestic giant yew tree.
