The Matterhorn Museum offers visitors the opportunity to learn in depth about the culture of the people of Zermatt. The museum is named after the Matterhorn mountain, which sits in the heart of the city, and visitors will find in the museum many belongings of individuals who climbed the mountain over several decades. The museum links the history and development of tourism in Zermatt and the Matterhorn, and also tells the story of the first climber of the mountain. The museum displays one of the two stones that astronaut Claude Nicollier took from the summit and brought with him on the STS-61 Endeavor mission in 1993.
