Information about Marschiertor
One of the oldest surviving city gates to this day is the Marchertor gate in Aachen. This former border gate was part of the city wall in the thirteenth century and was mainly used to store weapons, along with ten other city gates. Today, the building is the headquarters of the city guards of Aachen, and includes a number of sculptures by artist Klaus Gehlen that symbolize the former gatekeepers. During the evening, the gate is bathed in red sunlight at sunset, making it an ideal place for a stroll.
