The Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art occupies a new and imposing building in the heart of Alicante’s old town opposite the monumental Basilica of Santa Maria. Built as a wheat store in 1685, it is an outstanding example of the Baroque style in Valencia, one of the leading cultural venues in Alicante, with a total area of 4,680 square meters distributed over four floors and two basements, and includes one temporary exhibition hall, four exhibition halls for permanent collections, a library, educational facilities, an event hall, stores and workshops, in addition to spaces designated for security, administration and the like. The museum’s transparent spaces display its rich and diverse collections of contemporary art according to the programs Museum in which conservation and education are given the highest priority.
