One of Alicante's most important landmarks, Piazza Luceros is a busy place where Alicante residents and tourists gather in the summer to sit and chat on the benches surrounding the huge fountain built in the center of the square, and is also the focal point of many of the city's cultural events throughout the year. The fountain is one of the most important attractions in the square, and was designed in 1930 by the famous local sculptor Daniel Bañuls Martínez, and below the fountain there are sculptures of four horses representing the four forces of nature and the four seasons, with stars on their heads symbolizing the connection between earth and sky.
