San Francisco Street is one of the famous pedestrian streets in downtown Alicante, dating back to about 20 years ago, when Alicante residents felt unsafe walking down this street that was originally a dilapidated and neglected area with a bleak appearance, and it was not until 2013 that The city council began to make positive changes to the street by closing illegal businesses, converting the street into a pedestrian zone and creating a variety of cultural and recreational facilities. It was decorated with brightly colored giant mushrooms and insects with smiling faces. The ground was painted yellow and green and toys were painted. Hops all the way so kids can play on it. By the beginning of 2014, the entire street had transformed into a vibrant, attractive and trendy pedestrian area providing plenty of entertainment for visitors and featuring a range of unique cafes and restaurants.
