The neoclassical mansion is located on the island of Aziniki Park in a beautiful location overlooking a calm and charming lake rich in flowers and magnificent statues and sculptures. It was originally a royal bath before being renovated in the early 18th century as the residence of Augustus Stanisław, the last king of Poland who died in 1798. When the king moved in, he brought with him his extensive collection of art which forms the basis of the fine art collections displayed in the palace.
