Lake Banyoles is located only 12 km from the city of Girona. Lake Banyoles is currently the largest natural lake in Catalonia, and is naturally fed by subterranean channels. Lake Siles, located 33 km to the south, was the largest lake in the region previously, until it dried up in 1851. This lake is an attractive tourist destination for a day out, especially in the summer when everyone can walk in the shade of the watery tree branches, in addition to boat trips, kayaking, or swimming. In addition to all of that, there are legends claiming that Lake Banyoles contains its own mythical beast, which supposedly lurks at depths of 190 feet.
