Information about Kuttam Pokuna (Twin Ponds)
One of the best examples of shower tanks or swimming pools in ancient Sri Lanka is a pair of swimming pools known as Kuttam Pokuna (Twin Ponds). The said pair were built by Sinhalese in the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura in the 17th century, who built these two ponds side by side , for the purpose of bathing reserved for Buddhist monks because these kings were very respectful of Buddhists. This is considered one of the important achievements in the field of hydro-engineering and outstanding architectural and artistic innovations in ancient Sinhala. Separating these two ponds is a picturesque garden with beautiful natural plants. The two ponds are surrounded by luxurious granite slabs.
