Korsunlu Monastery, which is located 12 km from Davutlar district of Kusadasi, dates back to the eleventh century. It is a Byzantine building, containing several sections, including the refectory, the cellar, the kitchen, the monks’ rooms, the infirmary, the chapel, the cemetery, and the defense rooms. . This monastery is also distinguished by its frescoes on the ceiling of the church, which display symbolic and geometric shapes that refer to the iconoclasm period, a movement that sought to destroy religious icons and other symbols, as well as referring to religious events and people in the second half of the ninth century, after Age of Icon Wars.
