Kazbegi National Park is located high in the Greater Caucasus Mountains, and takes its name from Mount Kazbegi; the sixth highest peak in the Caucasus at 5,047 meters and one of the most famous natural attractions in Georgia. Most of the park grounds consist of snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, and jagged basalt slopes, providing an ideal habitat for eastern Caucasian and chamois moors, as well as many endemic bird species, and is one of Georgia's most visited protected areas, despite its lack of park infrastructure.
