Information about Holy Trinity Statue
The statue of the Holy Trinity is located in the center of Union Square in Timisoara and was built in memory of the victims of the plague in the period between 1738 and 1739 during which 1,300 people died, which is why the statue is also known as the Plague Column. The statue was built in the Baroque style in Vienna and then shipped to Timisoara via the Danube, Tissa and Bega. The cornerstone of this monument was laid in November 1740 by the governor's advisor Johann Anton Deschan von Hansen, whose wife died of the plague. The monument was formed in the form of a long triangular column, and at the top the Holy Trinity bears the heavenly crown above the head of the Virgin Mary, thus symbolizing the relationship between heaven and earth.
