The cathedral is the main church in the city, and one of the few buildings in Bruges that has survived the onslaught of the ages without damage. However, it has undergone some changes and renovations. It is also the oldest parish church in Bruges. Among its treasures is a loft containing medieval tombs and a rich collection of Flemish paintings (14th-18th centuries). The church is adorned with stunning Flemish-style stained glass windows. Paintings by great artists such as Derek Potts, Hugo van der Goes and many others.
