Information about High Castle of Fussen
High above Füssen, this scenic castle was once the summer residence of the princely bishops of Augsburg. It is one of the most important buildings in the German Late Gothic style. It was built illegally in 1291 by the secular Bavarian Lord Ludwig der String, and in the fourteenth century the German bishops restored the building and made it a church building, but it fell in the fifteenth century to the Kingdom of Bavaria, which removed all religious monuments from it. Today the building is used as a tax office and museum.
