Information about Grand Mosque
The Great Mosque of Mardin, one of the examples of Islamic architecture, was built in the Artuqid period, and it is considered the religious symbol of Mardin with its dome and chopped minaret. The historical book, which is located on a square plate of the minaret, shows the date of construction as 1176 AD, but the current minaret was built in a new eclectic style in the years (1888/89 AD). The building reflects the main features of the architecture of the Archaic period of the twelfth century, and is an important example of the plan and form of the mosque, which appeared in the southeast in an earlier period, with the vaulted structure in front of the mihrab and advancing transversely.
