The Frye Museum of Art specializes in painting and sculpture from the nineteenth century until today. The museum was opened in 1952 and was the first free art museum open to the public. The museum's art collection arose from the private holdings of collectors Charles and Emma Frye, which contained approximately 232 paintings.
