The fortress of Our Lady of Montserrat is considered one of the finest military works of the colony of Brazil, and was chosen for its location on a calm watery bay, concealed by hills that covered the limited flat area in the western part of Bahia. The fort was distinguished by a different engineering configuration, and it was renovated several times due to historical invasions, and it still preserves the original plan with six towers, through which enemies can be seen, and a water well that supplied the soldiers.
