When you head to Ribeira from Avenida dos Aliados, you will likely notice a huge red iron building near the Bolsa Palace. This building is Ferreira Borges Market, a market established in 1885, named after a famous politician from Porto who supported the liberal forces during the Civil War In the nineteenth century, the building is a wonderful representation of the Iron Period in Europe, of which only a few buildings remain. It houses a range of shops and various stalls, and on the top floor there is a wonderful restaurant where you can eat Italian food and delicious tapas.
