Eleanor Rigby is the fictional character made famous in one of the Beatles' most famous songs of the same name; The song honors all the lonely people in town; In 1981, English artist and rock and roll star Tommy Steele offered to erect a statue as a tribute to the Beatles and as a gesture of thanks for all the good times he had in Liverpool. Liverpool City Council approved his proposal and donated £4,000 to cover its cost; Then the statue was erected and the words "To all lonely people" put on it.
