Mount Bakian, or as it is called Mount Eight Immortals, is one of the famous mountains of Taichung, with a height of about 2448 meters. The pronunciation of Eight Thousand (Bakiyan) and Eight Immortals is similar in Chinese, hence the name. One of the three major logging stations in Taiwan was located in the forest of this mountain, and a theme park is located on part of it in Heping District. The livestock here is diverse, with more than 59 species of native birds and 5 species of migratory birds.
