Constructed by the Portuguese in the 17th century, the Dutch Canal was used as the main supply route along the western coast linking Colombo, ports and cities, extending directly through central Negombo, and still in use today, where you can take a boat and enjoy a pleasant tour among the most beautiful sights For the wonderful homes along the canal, the Dutch Canal is a great place especially in the morning, where you can walk along the recently reconstructed docks and you will see lots of small and medium sized boats passing through the canal which gives you great views of the local life in the city.
